Death of DimDim

“Dimdim – it’s the best thing since sliced bread!”, I remember exclaiming to my partner – just two years ago. “We can now be in two different cities, hold meetings online. And for no charge (zippo, nada, free)!”

With the great find of dimdim, I would always sneer at ads from citrix talking about go2meeting, or cisco touting webex. After all, there’s something free out there, that just works.

Unfortunately, the freemium model doesn’t seem to work always. I got a¬†plaintext email shocker the other day, that said it quite simply:

Dear Customer:

Dimdim has been acquired by Your free Dimdim account will remain active until March 15, 2011. After that date, you will no longer be able to access your free Dimdim account.

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for additional information.

We appreciate your understanding, and we thank you!

The Dimdim Team

That’s it. That’s how I was hit with it. I’m sure the thousands of dimdim users (millions, perhaps?), will be looking at as the bad guys, as accounts shut down, and the saga plays out.
